Saturday was just the best day! Usually Saturdays are very boring for me. We get up when it is still dark and load up the truck. Then I have to sit on the porch and watch Mom leave for market. She is gone for hours and hours.

But this week she came back early. And some other people came as well. Everyone was there to help build the greenhouse. But it was raining. We decided to build anyways. But we built stuff on the ground so no one had to climb wet ladders. That was better for me because then I could run around and give everyone kisses. I’m sure I helped a lot. Plus I had a couple of children to run around the farm with me. I got so tired.

Everyone worked really hard. We got almost half of the bows built for the second greenhouse. The rain got in the way a little, but it has been so dry that who could complain about rain? Before we finished, we stood up all the bows that we built. It looks so good.

And when we were done, we went into a wonderful meal that Linda put together for all of us. I provided the entertainment showing everyone how I could sit, shake and roll over. The whole day was really fun… I can’t wait to do it again.

It’s good that we finally got some rain. Plus it was nice that it was overcast on Sunday and Monday. The plants get more use of the rain when it is overcast. Have a good week.

It is so dry. I need some mud puddles to splash in. And I really need to do some digging, but the ground is so hard. Mom wants to plow up some of the field, but it would be helpful if it would rain first…

We keep weeding, but there is still so much to do. My job is to go around and give everyone kisses while they are down at my level. Mostly I like to surprise them when they aren’t looking so that they squeal with surprise.

The garlic harvest was fun. But I don’t get to eat any garlic or onions. Mom says they aren’t good for dogs and cats. So I don’t get to taste the food she makes with them. It smells so good. It’s not fair!!!

It’s pea season and I love peas. They are so crunchy and sweet. Sugar snaps and shell peas are my favorites. I like to follow the pickers through the field and beg for peas. Sometimes when they are not looking, I steal one from their buckets.

We’ve had lots of butterflies on the farm lately. They are mostly black with orange, white and blue stripes. They are so pretty. Mandalay (the black kitty) and I have been very busy chasing them out of the greenhouse. Seems like we get them out one end and they fly in the other end. Mandalay has a great method for catching them. She jumps up on the plastic, digs her claws in and grabs the butterflies. (Of course, Mom is not real thrilled about the claws in the plastic).

If you have a dog or cat, see if they like peas, like I do and let me know.

The Kitties and I really like these long days. There are bunnies and butterflies to chase, places to dig, veggies to eat, people to jump all over. So we need to start our days really early. The birdies start to sing at about 4:30. We have to wake mom up so she can let us out right away. It’s a team effort. First Mandalay runs into the bedroom. She dashes across the bed several times and talks with her squeaky voice. Sabrina is next. She can purr loudly. So she purrs and purrs. Then she kneads with her feet and puts her claws into Mom just a little. I’m next. I jump on the bed, stand over Mom and stare at her until she wakes up. If that doesn’t work I drop my 50 pounds on top of her and start petting her with my paws (and nails). Sometimes she ignores us and turns over. We just move around to the other side and start over. But we always win. So lately, Mom has been up by 5 and working very early. I tell her it’s better on these hot days. She’s not convinced - especially on Sundays…

It was a hot week! Supposedly it is not even summer yet, but it sure felt like it this week. I was glad to have my pool to run through. It’s best to run through the water, then through the dirt and back into the water. I do that over and over.

It’s raining now and we really need it. I need more mud puddles to run through too. I hope it rains all night.

WE have a bunch more people working on the farm for a couple of weeks. I had to greet and jump on so many people this morning. I had to take a nap after they all arrived. It’s very tiring work…Anyways, they are here to help with the harvesting and to catch up on the weeding and other projects. I’m going to be very busy supervising all these activities. I will have to run around to everyone and stick my nose in their faces to make sure they are doing everything correctly. Then I’ll have to roll over on my back and have them scratch my belly. Then I’ll know that they are focused…on me. But don’t worry; I’ll keep everything running well on the farm.

riley_sm.jpgHi! I’m Riley and I get to live at the farm all the time. Some dogs get to go to the dog park every day. I get to live at the dog park. I’m the luckiest dog in the world. There is lots of room to run, places to dig (but only if Mom is not watching!), critters to chase out of the veggies and lots of great things to eat.

One of my jobs on the farm is to greet everyone that comes to the farm. So every morning at 6:45 I start waiting for everyone to come to work. When they arrive, I run down, jump all over them, and give them kisses. I’m so excited it takes me a while to calm down.

My other job is critter patrol. I work on keeping out the mice, deer and rabbits. The deer are tricky because they come in at night when I am in the house. They ate a bunch of lettuce recently. I’m trying to convince Mom to let me stay out all night, but she won’t go for it. She probably knows that I would have all my friends over for a big party….

I’ve got my new buddies Sabrina and Mandalay. Sabrina goes out every morning and plays Queen of the savannah. She is a great hunter. Mandalay likes to play, nap and eat. I love having my kitties to play with. I like to sneak their food too!

I love to eat veggies too. Mom and the workers put up the pea trellis last week so I know that peas will be coming soon. Yummy! Plus, I love zucchini and the plants are covered with blossoms and little fruits are forming. And best of all, the little sungold cherry tomatoes are growing. I can’t wait!

I am going to miss everyone coming out to the farm. Every morning I start looking out the window waiting for my friends to arrive. Then when they arrive, I get so excited that I RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES UNTIL Mom lets me out the door. Then I jump all over them. Now I will miss them. I will also miss the drive to deliver your boxes and seeing my friends along the way. But I’ve had a great time this year and can’t wait for spring. Have a good winter!!!
